HKCC 55th Anniversary Gala Concert "Enchanting Musicals in Concert"
Date: 19/10/2024
As one of the highlights of The Hong Kong Children's Choir (HKCC) 55th Anniversary celebrations, the Gala Concert this year brought three grand original musicals in Cantonese from previous HKCC anniversaries to the stage again. These included Hong Kong Rocks and King of Singers, both composed and written by the Composer in Residence of HKCC Dr Steve Ho, as well as Magical Beanland, composed by Ng Cheuk-yin with lyrics by Jessie You.
Over 3,500 members performed four concerts on 19 and 20 October at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Concert Hall, along with nine guest performers: Dominique Chan, Zita Chan, Stephanie Che, Chen Chen, Louise Kwong, Gordon Lee, Sherrain Sum, Apollo Wong and Jasmine Yam. They brought to life classic scenes such as the adorable rendition of Song of the Tree Spirits by junior members adorned with wreaths; March of the AI Minions led by the AI King; and the lively performance of Please Stand Back from the Doors, with performers dressed as cars weaving through the stage. These pieces showcased the timeless charm of choral musicals to the audience, transcending time and space.
