Overview

The Hong Kong Children’s Choir (HKCC), founded in 1969, is the first and largest children’s choir in Hong Kong with around 5,000 members. Registered as a non-profit-making charitable organization, HKCC has grown into a diversified arts organization. Under the supervision of Music Director and Principal Conductor Kathy Fok, along with over 100 professional tutors, choir members develop their artistic talents and learn the importance of team spirit through engaging rehearsals.

Each year, HKCC is invited to perform internationally, spreading messages of love and peace worldwide. Apart from Asia, The Choir has been well received in many countries in Europe, America and Australia, earning an international reputation as “Little Goodwill Singing Ambassadors” and “one of the best children’s choirs in the world”. HKCC was named “China’s Top Ten Children Chorus” and served as an Ambassador of the International Federation for Choral Music (IFCM) from 2013 to 2015.

HKCC actively participates in charitable events, organizing numerous fundraising concerts for causes such as SARS, earthquake relief, hearing disabilities and cancer support services. In 2018, the HKCC Arts Development Fund was launched to support students of different ages and backgrounds in exploring and developing their artistic talents. Over 200 children have benefited from the Arts Experience Scheme since its establishment.

HKCC collaborates with world-renowned musicians and arts organizations. Notable partnerships include performances with Chen Zuohuang and the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra; Edo de Waart, Lorin Maazel and Jaap van Zweden with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra; John Rutter; Yan Huichang with the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra; as well as productions by the Hong Kong Arts Festival and Hong Kong Ballet.

As the children’s choir representing Hong Kong, HKCC has taken part in many historical moments, including the Ocean Park Opening Ceremony in 1977, the Hong Kong Handover Ceremony in 1997, the Hong Kong International Opening Ceremony in 1998 and the Hong Kong Disneyland Grand Opening in 2005. Additionally, HKCC has participated in performances celebrating the anniversaries of Hong Kong’s reunification with China, the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008, the East Asian Games and the anniversaries of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China.

HKCC organizes numerous concerts and performances annually, allowing members to share their love for the arts with the community. In 2019, HKCC presented the “Asia Pacific Choral Summit” which was awarded the 14th HKADC Award for Arts Promotion and the “Hong Kong Choral Conducting Competition” to celebrate its 50th Anniversary. The original Cantonese musical production, King of Singers, was selected as one of the Top 10 Music Headlines by RTHK. In 2023, the “HKCC Pays Tribute to Sam Hui” concert was held to preserve and carry forward Cantopop culture for future generations. The HKCC 55th Anniversary Choral Camp “Sing Out of the Box” in 2024 promoted diverse choral music and expanded the boundaries of Hong Kong’s choral scene.
