Gala Concert 2022 – Songs of Hope

  • The first Gala Concert of The Hong Kong Children’s Choir (HKCC) since the outbreak of the pandemic was held at Hong Kong Cultural Centre Concert Hall on 11 and 12 September. Around three thousand members participated in four shows separately. Under the theme of “Songs of Hope”, this year’s Gala Concert aims to bring strength and comfort to all audience via music, and to encourage everyone to stay strong during difficult times, as after the storm always comes a calm.

     

    Selected by different classes from a wide range of choral works, the repertoire included Cantonese works by Hong Kong composers as well as a eclectic mix of songs written in other languages that include English, Japanese, German, Latin, Latvian and more. A number of songs composed by HKCC tutor, including Because of Love and Heading to Future with faith by Ms Lin Ching, Light Up the New Hope by Ms Ho Tsz-yan and Patricia Chan, and When the Star Wish upon You by Mr Ernest Hui, received their world premiere in the concert as well. To give extra dimensions to the performances, members performed with props and costumes or developed the performance into a musical with dance moves, winning a big round of applause from audience of all ages.
