Date: 15/03/2025
Renowned maestro Daniele Gatti led the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HK Phil) in the performance of Daniele Gatti | Mahler 3 Concert during the 53rd Hong Kong Arts Festival, bringing the audience Gustav Mahler’s monumental Third Symphony. This masterpiece is composed of six movements, encompassing a wide range of emotions from profound sorrow to transcendent spirituality, embodying Mahler’s concept of “embracing everything.”
The Hong Kong Children's Choir (HKCC) was invited to perform at the concert. Led by Apollo Wong, members from HKCC Senior B performed alongside the Ladies of the HK Phil Chorus on March 13 at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Concert Hall, singing the fifth movement, “What the Angels Tell Me”. On March 15, members traveled with the HK Phil to Xinghai Concert Hall Symphony Hall in Guangzhou, where they presented this extraordinary musical work to a broader audience. The clear and pure singing voices blended beautifully with the grand orchestral music, echoing through both Hong Kong and Guangzhou. Both concerts played to full houses and ended with enthusiastic applause, making them a memorable success.
